Two Days Workshop on “First Aid” at Don Bosco College of Engineering

A two days Internationally recognized Certification Workshop on “First Aid” was organized by Mechanical Engineering Department, Don Bosco College of Engineering in association with St. John Ambulance, New Delhi and FSAI, Goa Chapter on 11th and 12th January 2019. In all 40 participants attended the workshop, which included Industry Professionals from Faber Castell, Turbocam, Chowgule Shipbuilding, Binani, Syndicate Printers, Pentair, Tekno paints, MPT, Academicians from Goa Engineering College and DBCE and Students.

The speakers were Dr. Jorson Fernandes (ENT specialist & Surgeon Examiner, St. John Ambulance, New Delhi) and other First Aid Trainers. The topics covered were Incident Management, Infectious diseases; Casualty Management, CPR, Physical examination, Types of wounds, Types of Bleeding, Strains & Sprains, Fracture, uses of bandages & dressing, treatment of Burns, etc. Practical sessions were also conducted so that the participants were thoroughly trained in the standard First Aid procedures. Special manikins were used in the practical sessions for individual practice. The examination was conducted in 3 sessions consisting of theory, practical and real life scenario assessment.

For the valedictory function Mr. Atul Garg, GGM-Head of Institute, ONGC, IPSHEM, Goa.  The Chief Guest emphasized on importance of Leadership Qualities in engineers and spoke about scope about collaboration with ONGC for student internships. The Guest of honor Mr. K K Sekhar, President, FSAI Goa Chapter highlighted on the activities of the FSAI Chapter and its objectives. He complimented the Management and staff of DBCE for being in the forefront of Industry Institute Interaction and the Trainers of St. John Ambulance for organizing the course. Rev. Fr. Paul D’Souza, Rector emphasized on the importance of First Aid and urged the participants to remain prepared for any scenario where first aid may be needed. Prof. Ajit Salunke, Convener & Head of Mechanical Department briefed about the forthcoming workshops for Industry.  The vote of thanks was proposed by the coordinator, Prof. Saurabh Raikar. Prof. Raymond Joseph was the co- coordinator for the workshop. .
