One Day National level workshop on Emerging Trends In Alternate Fuels held at DBCE
A One day national level workshop on “Emerging Trends In Alternate Fuels” was organised by the Department of Mechanical Engineering of DBCE, Fatorda, on 9-2-2019. The workshop was sponsored by Department of Science & Technology, Goa. The guest speakers were Dr. GN Kumar, Associate Professor, NITK, Suratkal, Dr Arunachala Chandavar, Senior Associate Professor, MIT, Manipal, & Dr. Jagannath Hirkude, Professor, GEC, Goa. All these eminent speakers shared their original idea from their core areas of research. Students of Final Year Mechanical Engineering – Don Bosco College of Engineering and Agnel Institute of Technology & Design along with faculty members attended the workshop.
The speakers emphasized on the need for Alternate Fuels & renewable energy sources as the only viable alternate to the fast depleting fossil fuels of petro origin. Indigenously developable Bio diesels, Harnessing the Solar Energy, & the development of Hydrogen as an alternate fuel on SI engines were all discussed exhaustively. The upliftment of rural economy, generation of employment, reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, saving of huge bill on oil imports, thereby saving of our foreign exchange reserves etc were the key points of the deliberations. This will act as an eye opener for students & researchers to explore new thrust areas of energy conservation to be taken up in this area. The sessions were concluded with question answer sessions from the participants.
The valedictory session of the workshop was attended by Rector, Fr. Paul D’ Souza, Director, Fr. Kinley D’Cruz, Principal Dr. Neena Panandikar, HOD Mechanical. Prof. Ajit Salunke, Dr. H.K.Amarnath, Professor, Mechanical Engineering and the resource persons. Dr Neena Panandikar appreciated the efforts of the coordinators and the Mechanical Department in organising the workshop. Prof Amarnath talked about the overall deliberations of the day. Certificates of participation were distributed at the hands of the distinguished guests. The event concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Sharad shanbhag.
