Second Year Mechanical Engineering Students Of DBCE Make Industrial Visit To Albea Group, City Aluminum, Konkan Railway And Alcon Hyundai

The Second Year students of Mechanical Engineering of DBCE, Fatorda belonging to second division made an industrial visit to Albea Group, City Aluminum Pvt Ltd, Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd and Alcon Hyundai Pvt Ltd on 24^th August 2019. The visit was arranged by Assistant Prof. Raymond Joseph and Assistant Prof. Manjunath Narwate.

Albea group provides packaging solutions for products used every day – from tubes, cosmetic, mascaras and pumps to applicators, packs with formula, travel kits etc. Students visited 3 main departments namely: printing, moulding and assembly, accompanied by Mr. Naik, Head of Quality Department & Ms. Tejal Naik, HR department. All the production processes are automated with dynamic process control and online inspection. In the printing department there are two automated machines which print 100 m/min. One machine can print 8 colours, one colour at a time with 8 stations, each station printing one colour. The printed roll will be the raw material for the assembling machine. In the moulding section, several injection moulding machines are installed to produce caps and solder. The final tube is produced in the assembling machines where the printed roll will be converted into cylindrical form and cut to desired length.

City aluminum Pvt Ltd. provides manufacturing solution of Aluminium, uPVC, Coatings & Glass needs.  Ms. Reni Mazarelo and Mr. Caetan toured the students around the manufacturing facility. Ms. Mazarelo highlighted the company’s business portfolio, client base and supplier and dealer networks. Ms. Mazarelo explained about different parameters for procuring aluminium, the process of anodizing the metal & powder coating application. She also embarked upon the fabrication process involved in manufacturing the panes. Students visited the facility for imparting different wood textures on the metal. Mr. Caetan explained about advantages of using uPVC and fuse welding process to join uPVC.

Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd provides railway transportation services in Konkan region. It hosts a yard in Margao where maintenance works of coaches are undertaken. Mr. Sameer Sheikh, Senior Section Engineer and Depot Manager explained about the maintenance activities undertaken at the yard, namely: rolling – in and rolling out examination, issuing of brake power certificate (BPC), air brake testing, sick line maintenance and overhauling scheduling.  He also explained about various classes and types of coaches in use.

Alcon Hyundai is the automobile arm of Anil Counto Enterprises which is involved in sales, spares and services of Hyundai vehicles. Mr. Bhupesh, Service Manager accompanied the students. Various stations in the service center shown to students were service, wheel alignment, inspection and car washing. Servicing of vehicles was demonstrated for the students.

The students had a learning experience through the industries visited and gained exposure about the same.
