8TH INSTALLATION OF DBEATS COUNCIL

The 8^th Annual Installation of DBEATS (Don Bosco Electronics and Telecommunication Society) was held on 31^st August 2019 at 10:00am in the College Auditorium.

The Chief Guest for the function was Dr. Nithin Kumar Y. B, Head of Electronics and Communication Engineering, NIT Goa. Besides the chief guest, the occasion was graced by the presence of Dr. Neena Panandikar, Principal- Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, Dr. Varsha Turkar, Head of ETC Department, Prof. D. S. Vidhya and Prof. Deron Rodrigues- DBEATS Faculty Coordinators and Mr. Nixon Coutinho – DBEATS Chairperson as the dignitaries on the dais.

The ceremony commenced with a welcome prayer recited by Ms. Sibga Shaikh followed by the lighting of the traditional lamp by the dignitaries. A short video of D-BEATS activities held during the year 2018-2019 was played.
The new DBEATS council members were then introduced by Prof. Deron Rodrigues and were welcomed by Dr. Varsha Turkar and Prof. D. S. Vidhya with flower and badges. This was followed by the oath taking ceremony by the following elected members:

Thereafter, the dignitaries were escorted to the dais and welcomed with floral bouquets. Dr. Neena Panandikar, in her welcome address to the gathering congratulated the faculty and students of ETC department for their various achievements in the recent past and encouraged them to conquer greater heights.

Prof. Mathilda Colaco, introduced the Chief Guest, Dr, Nithin Kumar Y. B, Head of Electronics and Communication Engineering, NIT Goa and welcomed him to address the gathering.

The Chief Guest, in his address emphasized on thinking beyond one’s own stream of education. He encouraged students to work with other disciplines in sharing ideas to build up projects.
As a token of appreciation, Dr. Neena Panandikar presented a memento to the chief guest.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Neha Joshi, Editor of DBEATS student’s council.

REPORT OF EXPERT TALK ON “VLSI RESEARCH ACTIVITIES”

The Installation ceremony was followed by a Technical talk on “VLSI Research activities”, delivered by the Chief Guest, Dr. Nithin Kumar Y. B, Head of Electronics and Communication Engineering, NIT Goa.  In his talk, he spoke about recent low-power VLSI technologies.

He commenced with the basics of MOSFET’s, its small signal models and variation with various design parameters.  He discussed about the design of Low Power, High Speed Error Tolerant Multiplier Using Approximate Adder, Low-Power Auxiliary Circuit for Level-Crossing ADCs in IoT-Sensor Applications and Low Power DTMOS OTA-C Filter for ECG Sensing Applications. The students got an insight of different projects that can be taken up in mixed VLSI and Low Power design. The expert talk was coordinated by Prof. Deron Rodrigues and Prof. D. S. Vidhya.
