Report of Talk organized by IIC titled ‘Problem Solving and Ideation’: Mrs. Suwarna Surlakar

Institution Innovation Council of Don Bosco College of Engineering (DBCE) organized a Talk on ‘Problem Solving and Ideation’, on 18 February 2022. It was attended by more than 60 participants from among the second year Mechanical engineering students at DBCE. Mr. Nitesh Singh introduced the speaker Mrs. Suwarna Surlakar-Founder/Director Fun minds Learning Tech Pvt. Ltd.

Mrs. Suwarna Surlakar initiated the session with stressing on the relevance and importance of understanding the Problem and talking about the Problem to others for the purpose of coming up with multiple solutions. She led the students to brain storm on coming up with a specific solution to a problem she posed during her presentation.

She pointedly mentioned that it is important to correctly pick up the Problem and then come up with multiple solutions to the Problem. In her illustration she advised that if there may be a total of 6 solutions, it would be advisable to offer all 6 solutions to the market and look at what is the best fit for the community to get a perfect solution.

Mrs. Suwarna Surlakar presented the difference between Ideas and Concepts and said “ Don’t rely on just the Idea, but you have to bring it to a Concept.”.

The session ended with a discussion allowing the participants to clarify their doubts.

 Dr. Suraj Marathe – President -IIC-DBCE and Mrs. Natasha D’souza e Jaques- Asst. Professor – Department of Science & Humanities -DBCE along with student coordinators Mr. Nitesh Singh and Mr. Raiden Moares coordinated the event.
