Agnel Polytechnic students visit DBCE

The Department of Mechanical Engineering organized a half-day institute visit for the third-year Automobile Engineering students of Agnel Polytechnic, Verna on 13th March 2025. Coordinated by Mr. Sachin Turi and Dr. Suraj Marathe, the visit included a tour of the Automobile, CNC, and CAD CAM Laboratories. Dr. Suraj Marathe, Head of the Mechanical Department at DBCE. highlighted the extensive job opportunities available for Mechanical Engineers in the industry and emphasized the importance of acquiring skills in the latest machining technologies, such as CNC, for manufacturing.

The students were taken around the CAD CAM and Automobile labs. Mr. Sachin Turi and Mr. Sujesh Girodkar conducted a hands-on session on Mastercam, an NC code generation software. Students engaged in machining a simple turning component, starting with the process planning and moving on to cutter path simulation for final validation. The Automobile sessions were led by Mr. Aniket Naik and Mr. Joyston Menezes. They demonstrated working models of various automotive systems available in the lab. Additionally, the students were introduced to the advanced BMW 2L TwinPower Turbo Diesel Engine with Automatic Transmission. The session included an overview of the engine’s history and a detailed explanation of its components.

Following these sessions, Mr. Gaurish Samant familiarized the students with the CNC Milling and Turning Centre. This was followed by a live demonstration of a turning operation on the CNC Turning Centre, conducted by Mr. Diptesh Naik. Simultaneously, the other group was taken on a workshop tour by Mr. Joel Fernandes, who showcased the institute’s TIG and MIG welding setups.

The students were accompanied to DBCE by Lecturers, Mr. Omkar Khandolkar and Mr. Sarvesh Rane. The visit concluded with a meaningful and engaging interaction. Fr. Kinley D’Cruz, Director of DBCE, and Dr. Neena Panandikar, Principal of DBCE, wished the students well for their professional aspirations.
