CAREER IN ENGINEERING 2021

The Training and Placement Cell of Don Bosco College of Engineering organized an online webinar on the topic ‘Career in Engineering’. This webinar targeted prospective students of class 10th, 11th, 12th as well as students who have completed a diploma course along with their  parents. The objective of the webinar was to help aspiring students choose the right branch of engineering. An Online webinar session was conducted on Microsoft Teams video conferencing platform on July 31, 2021 from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM. A total of 184 registrations were received from various cities of Goa. Ms. Grebian Alemao was the moderator of the event and Dr. Shreyas Simu coordinated the event .

Director, Rev.Fr. Kinley D’Cruz welcomed the participants to the webinar and briefed them about the Salesian Society of Don Bosco and its founder; he said “Don Bosco started technical schools to educate young people and skills that would guarantee better conditions and better future for them”. Dr. Neena Panandikar gave a brief overview of the webinar; she emphasized “It is very important to know various branches of engineering field, so that you can make the right choice as your career ahead”. Ms. Grebian Alemao gave an overview of Don Bosco College of Engineering and explained about various branches of engineering.

The first speaker of the webinar was Dr. Gaurang Patkar, HOD of Department of Computer Engineering. He gave an overview of the Computer Engineering domain and also provided insights on career prospects in the domain, projects/research fields. While explaining the depth of the field he said “Computer engineers build PC’s, workstations and supercomputers and also build computer based systems found in cars, planes, electronics appliances etc.”. The second speaker of the event was Dr. Varsha Turkar, HOD of Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering. She presented her views on career opportunities for an ETC engineer and mentioned about core electronics jobs and non-core jobs in her presentation. She said, “ETC is a rapidly growing sector which has various job opportunities for skilled professionals”. The next speaker was Prof. Ajit Salunke, HOD of Department of Mechanical Engineering who gave an insight about Mechanical engineering and its sub domains like mechatronics and automobile engineering. He said, “Mechatronics is the upcoming area and it is an interdisciplinary field and is a combination of mechanical, electronics, electricals and computer engineering”. The last speaker for the event was Dr. Shwetha Prasanna, HOD of Department of  Civil Engineering. She gave an overview about Civil engineering and its various sub categories; she mentioned “Students can think of field jobs, research jobs, management jobs or self-employment after graduation”.

 Videos of projects done by engineering students of Don Bosco were shown to the participants to give them a glimpse of life at an engineering college. Dr. Shreyas Simu, Asst. TPO presented the overview of Training & Placement Cell at Don Bosco College of Engineering.

After the speakers finished, there was a question-answer session which was moderated by Ms. Grebian Alemao. A lot of questions were posted by students and parents.

After the Q&A session, Dr. Shreyas Simu delivered the vote of thanks.
