DBCE Mechanical Faculty attend workshop on Renewable Energy Storage: Challenges and Solutions

On 9th August 2025, the faculty members of Mechanical Engineering Department Dr. Suraj Marathe, Dr. Ajit Salunke, Prof. Sharad Shanbhag along with technical staff Mr. Dattaguru Sawardekar attended a workshop on “Renewable Energy Storage: Challenges and Solutions” organised by the Institution of Engineers (India) Goa state centre in association with Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) at GCCI hall, Panaji.
The event began with an Inaugural session graced by Chief Guest Mr. Stephen Fernandes, Chief Electrical Engineer of the Goa Electricity Department, GCCI President Mrs. Pratima Dhond, and other office bearers of IEI and GCCI committees.
The first technical session was delivered by Er. Yeswant Natekar, CEO of JNK Renewable Energy Pvt. Ltd, who spoke on the concept and scope of clean technologies. He explained how renewable raw materials and innovative engineering approaches can help prevent or minimize environmental damage at the source. He emphasized the importance of an interdisciplinary effort to reduce pollution, conserve resources, and design processes that are sustainable for future generations.
The second session was conducted by Mr. Alex Hunter, CEO and Founder of Sherwood Power, UK, who introduced his company’s cutting-edge clean compressed air energy storage technology. He discussed how advanced storage solutions can improve grid stability and meet peak power demands. He also highlighted the potential applications of such technologies in areas like cold chains and industrial refrigeration.
The event concluded with an engaging Q&A session, where participants actively discussed technical aspects and practical applications.
