The Robotics club “Robocom” of Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, under the guidance of Prof. Flavia Leitao, successfully conducted a one-day Robotics Workshop for the students of Mahatma Gandhi Centenary High School, Gaunem, Bandoda, Bandiwada, Goa, in collaboration with JCI Ponda, on 16th April 2025.

The session began with a warm welcome and the introduction of the Robocom Club members by the staff from Mahatma Gandhi Centenary High School. The workshop commenced with Ms. Gretchen Pereira introducing the students to the basic concepts of robotics, different types of robots, and their real-world applications.

Following this, Mr. Vallan Mascarenhas took over to explain the critical role of sensors in robotics. He introduced various types of sensors, like Ultrasonic Sensor, Flame Sensor, Infrared (IR) Sensor, Gas Sensor, Soil Moisture Sensor, etc.

Next, Mr. Sherwin Dias introduced the concept of coding, explaining its significance in the automation process. He discussed how coding languages are used to program robots and introduced Arduino as the “brain of the robot,” responsible for controlling its various components.

Mr. Preston Dsilva then shared insights into popular Robotics Competitions, such as RoboSoccer, RoboRacer, Line Following Robot (LFR) and Robowars. He described the components used in each type of robot and their functions, sparking interest in competitive robotics among the students.

The workshop concluded with hands-on sessions, where Preston and Mazen guided students in building and operating their own RoboRacers.  Gretchen, Vallan, and Sherwin conducted an interactive activity with Line Following Robots, giving students a chance to experiment and control the robots themselves. The workshop proved to be highly engaging, informative, and inspiring. It successfully ignited curiosity among the students and provided them with a strong foundational understanding of robotics. The event aligned perfectly with the goal of promoting STEM education and nurturing future innovators at the school level.
