DBCE STUDENTS ATTEND INDIAN INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE FESTIVAL AT NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF OCEANOGRAPHY, DONA PAULA
On 25th September 2018, 20 students from Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda attended the Indian International Science Festival at NIO campus in Dona Paula. They were accompanied by Prof. Swapnil Ramani, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering.
CSIR- National Institute of Oceanography organized the state level one-day outreach program involving students, public and media at NIO campus, Dona Paula on 25 September 2018. The event included the following activities: Exhibition on innovations in marine science and technology Display of award winning student projects, Scientific talks of current interest, Films on ocean science Scientist-student interactions.
The event started with a talk on “Marine pollution” delivered by Dr. Chakraborty , Scientist from NIO wherein he highlighted the different causes of marine pollution, how it affects humans and measures to be taken to control the same. This was followed by a talk on the “Chemistry of the Ocean” by Dr. Shenoy in which he explained the importance of the ocean in maintaining the level of oxygen in our atmosphere and the ill effects of polluting the ocean on the air we breathe. After the sessions the students were taken around the various exhibits which included the various projects taken up by the National Institute of Oceanography and also award winning student projects from the state of Goa. One of the projects on display was the “Design and Fabrication of Disabled Friendly Wheelchair” from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, DBCE.
Overall it was a very enlightening and learning experience for the students.
