Educational Tour to Ooty by Mechanical Engineering Students

The final-year BE Mechanical Engineering students of Don Bosco College of Engineering embarked on an educational tour to Ooty from March 15th to 20th, 2025.
During their visit, students explored the Tea Factory and Chocolate Factory, gaining insights into the advanced machinery used in tea and chocolate production. They observed equipment such as tea rollers, drying units, and chocolate tempering machines in operation. Additionally, they visited an Oil Extraction Factory specializing in eucalyptus oil production, where they learned about steam distillation and examined key machinery, including distillation units and separators, designed for maintaining quality and efficiency.

On March 19, the students experienced a memorable ride on the Nilgiri Mountain Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This journey provided hands-on learning about locomotive design and railway mechanics, particularly the rack-and-pinion system used for steep gradients. Later, they visited the War Museum at the Madras Regimental Centre, Wellington, which housed a vast collection of historical weaponry, war machinery, and protective gear. Exhibits featured firearms, artillery, and military equipment spanning different eras, highlighting the evolution of weapon designs, materials, and mechanical engineering innovations in warfare.
The tour was guided by Prof. Sanjeel Naik and Prof. Ruchira Fal Dessai, ensuring an enriching educational experience that blended theoretical knowledge with real-world applications.
