Engineers Day 2022

Engineers are shaping the future by applying their skills to almost everything. They convert the theoretical knowledge of basic sciences into actual products and thus make our lives easy. Engineers’ Day is celebrated on September 15 every year in India, commemorating the birthday of one of the greatest engineers in India and Bharat Ratna recipient, Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya recognizing his contributions in harnessing water resources in India.
Dr. Neena Panandikar- Principal, in her welcome address to the students, advised them to be passionate and thorough in the fundamentals, to make use of their potential, intelligence and knowledge for the welfare of the society and mankind. Fr Kinley D’Cruz – Director, his speech motivated the students by addressing them as engineers and also mentioning the great works of Sir M. Visvesvaraya.
A felicitation programme of the participants of Smart India Hackathon 2022, was held. DBCE students were shortlisted to represent at the finals at Hubli and Indore on August 25 and 26 , 2022. Two teams namely the Green Ribbon Army from the B.E Computer Dept. which comprised of Carson Rodrigues, Yash Karapurkar, Oysturn Vas, Jaysel Silveira, Dhruvi Tendulkar and Rea D’Souza participated. The mentors of this team were Dr Vivek Jog and Prof. Amey Kerkar, and The Syntax Terminators from T.E Computer Department, comprised of Nishil Hoogar, Shannon D’silva, Tabib Ashraf, Nicole Fernandes, Rafath Umaimath and Nitya Pai, they were ably mentored by Prof. Shweta Morajkar and Prof Ankit Kumar Tiwari.
The Goa Police Hackathon, a 48 hours hackathon for all Goan students was held on September 11, 2022. DBCE bagged the third place. Pratham Shah and Ivan Azim were the participants. The team was mentored by Prof. Jhanvi Naik. The three teams created visually attractive videos and displayed to the audience for a better understanding of the event.
Mahendra Kakule a Civil Engineer by profession and author of the book ‘Property Valuation by Income Approach’,in his speech he urged students to never lose focus and keep achieving greater heights. Mr. C O P Furtado, project Director, National highways Authority of India in his speech encouraged students to answer various competitive exams and scale to high levels.
Dr. Tanmay Verlekar presented his own research which was on Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Biometrics, and Gait Analysis.
A token of gratitude was presented to the guests and the programme ended with the vote of thanks by Prof Michelle Araujo e Viegas. The Faculty Coordinators for this event were Prof. Deron Rodrigues and Prof. Michelle Araujo e Viegas (ETC Dept.), Prof. Merwyn D’souza (Computer Dept.), Prof. Sharad Shanbhag (Mechanical Dept.) Prof. Kaushik Pai Fondekar (Civil Dept.). The programme was anchored by Ms. Elaine Dias (Counselor).
