Expert Talk on ‘Architecting Sustainability: Planning for a Green Future’

The Department of Science and Humanities organized an insightful expert talk for the students of First Year Civil Engineering on Friday, 28 March 2025. The distinguished speaker Mr. Satyesh Kakodkar, Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering, DBCE aimed to introduce the students to build a green and sustainable future. 

Mr. Kakodkar spoke about the concept of Green Buildings. He discussed the IGBC Green New Buildings rating programme for new buildings of all sizes and types in India. He mentioned about the categories such as water conservation, energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality and innovation. He shared an example of meaningful sustainability – Suzlon One Earth campus in Pune, which operates entirely on renewable energy, using its hybrid wind turbines, solar panels and photovoltaic cells. This campus is LEED Platinum and GRIHA 5-star certified, making it one of the greenest corporate campuses globally.

The talk was well-received, with active student participation. It enhanced their understanding of the green future for civil engineers. The expert talk was a successful and enriching experience, providing valuable knowledge for students’ academic and professional growth.
