Faculty Reflection Evening on the Psychology of Relationships

  • formats

A Faculty Reflection Evening at Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, was held on 30th October 2025, and was facilitated by Fr. Edison Fernandes SDB. The session saw active participation from both teaching and non-teaching staff members.

Centred on the theme “Psychology of Relationships,” the session aimed to help educators gain a deeper understanding of emotional and behavioural dynamics within the teaching environment—both in their interactions with students and in professional relationships among colleagues.

Fr. Edison explained how student behaviour is often influenced by emotional experiences and introduced the concept of Attachment Theory, which explores how early emotional bonds with caregivers shape an individual’s ability to trust, regulate emotions, and form relationships. By applying this understanding in the classroom, educators can identify signs of anxiety, over-dependence, or withdrawal in students, and respond with empathy while maintaining healthy boundaries.

The reflection also highlighted the importance of emotional awareness and respect among staff. Differences in communication styles, work habits, or perspectives can lead to misunderstandings and conflict; however, recognizing these differences can instead strengthen collaboration and build a culture of openness and support.

Fr. Edison shared meaningful real-life examples, inspiring participants to cultivate understanding, forgiveness, and mutual respect in their professional lives. The session concluded on a reflective note, reminding all present that at the heart of education lies the mission to serve students with compassion, patience, and integrity.
