FE Student Induction Program 2025-26

As mandated by the AICTE Model Curriculum, Don Bosco College of Engineering conducted a two-week Student Induction Program (SIP) for the newly inducted first year engineering students. The schedule was meticulously prepared keeping in mind the norms and recommendations of AICTE.

Day 1 (14th July 2025)

The first session of the SIP was delivered by Fr. Ralin De Souza, Rector, Don Bosco, Fatorda. Fr. Ralin in his session talked about the Preventive system of Don Bosco’s education which he said “is based on three pillars: Reason, Religion & Loving Kindness”.

Next, the students were addressed by Dr. Neena Panandikar, Principal, DBCE. The principal gave a general overview of the various activities and achievements of the college. She solicited the support of the students saying, “You are our important stakeholders, contribute and help us grow.”

In the afternoon session, the students were put into groups of about ten each and were engaged in ice-breakers and fun activities by the counsellors Ms. Elaine Dias and Ms. Palosha Pereira.

Day 2 (15th July 2025)

The second day of the orientation programme began with a yoga session conducted by Ms. Swaroopa Sail, Civil Eng. Dept., DBCE. She demonstrated various yoga postures and explained their importance in relieving stress and in overall wellbeing. Students actively participated in the session.

This was followed by a session on “Scheme (NEP), Examination, Grading system, Scholarships & Audit courses” by Mrs. Avila Naik, Officer In-charge Examinations and Dr. Kala Nayak, Registrar & HOD of Science & Humanities department, DBCE.

Dr. Kala also introduced the students to the faculty who would be teaching them in the first semester.

In the afternoon session, Dr. Norman Dias, Training & Placement Officer, DBCE, gave a session on “Career Options, Higher Education, Research & Civil Services & Job Markets”. In his session, Dr. Norman highlighted the job market scenario in each of the engineering branches.

The students were then taken for a campus tour by faculty from the respective departments and were familiarised with the various labs and central facilities in the college.

Day 3 (16th July 2025)

In the morning session the students were given an insight into the various activities / clubs / associations at DBCE by the respective section heads/coordinators. These included Cultural activities, Sports activities, NSS, E-cell, SEEDS, Satellite Club, FSAI, IIC, Robotics Club & CII-IWN. The Anti-Ragging committee / squad of the college headed by Mr. Ajit Salunke also addressed the students.

In the afternoon session, the heads of the departments acquainted the students about the Vision, Mission, and Accreditation, Major/Minor degree, departmental associations and other relevant details of their respective departments.

Day 4 (17th July 2025)

In the morning session, faculty from respective departments delivered a session on the “Role of Engineers in Society & Industry” which was then followed by the faculty highlighting some “Innovative Projects” in their respective departments.

In the afternoon, an engaging and insightful workshop titled “Bridging Logic and Language through Creative Missions” was conducted by Ms. Jesselyn Fernandes, Asst. Prof., DBCE.

The session featured creative, problem-solving activities encouraging critical thinking, teamwork and effective communication.

Day 5 (18th July 2025)

A scientific calculator is an essential tool for every engineering student and it is equally important to know the proper use of its various functions. Keeping this in mind, a hands-on workshop on the use of scientific calculator was conducted for the students in the morning session by faculty from respective departments.

An interaction with senior students and alumni of the respective departments was held wherein the seniors and alumni shared their experiences at DBCE and gave useful advice to the students.

In the afternoon session, the students were divided into groups and engaged in activities such as the  DBCE photo scavenger hunt.

Day 6 (21nd July 2025)

The first day of the second week of the orientation programme began with the workshop on Generative AI. The session was delivered by Dr. Shreyas Simu and Mr. Deron Rodrigues, Asst. Professors, DBCE for Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering and ECS students. Simultaneously, Mr. Amey Kerkar, Asst. Prof., DBCE conducted the session for Computer Engineering students. The workshop introduced students to the fundamentals and real-world applications of Generative AI, highlighting its impact on the future of technology while sparking curiosity and encouraging active participation.

In the afternoon session the students were divided into groups and engaged in games of Chess, Carrom and table tennis.

Day 7 (22rd July 2025)

In the morning session, a talk on “Health and Wellbeing” was delivered by Dr. U J Wanda Viegas, Senior Medical Officer at GMC. She highlighted the importance of physical and mental health, stress management and healthy lifestyle practices for students.

The next session was conducted by Dr. Layla Mascarenhas, who delivered an inspiring talk on “Facing Challenges with a Smile.” Through personal anecdotes and practical advice, she encouraged students to stay positive, build resilience and view challenges as opportunities for growth, leaving a strong motivational impact on the participants.

In the afternoon, a session on library facilities was conducted by the Librarian, Dr. Rolando D’Cruz and Library Assistant, Ms. Vanessa Fernandes. They demonstrated to the students how to use the library website to search for available books, access ScienceDirect journal articles and utilize DELNET. They also helped the students register for the NDLI Club.

This was followed by an informative session on “Social Media Addiction & Cyber Crime” conducted by Mr. Allen Pauly Payappilly, Cyber Awareness Ambassador, MeitY, Government of India, and PSI Somshekar Biradar from Cyber Crime Cell, Goa Police.  Mr. Payappilly highlighted real-life cases to demonstrate how social media can be misused and provided practical tips on staying safe in the digital world. PSI Somshekar further cautioned the students to be aware about cyber frauds and not to be involved in such activities.

Day 8 (23th July 2025)

The day began with a session on “Healthy Relationships” by Fr. Jeronimo D’Silva, Prof. in Psycology, Rosary College, Navelim. In his session Fr. Jeronimo emphasised about building good relationships between God, oneself and others. Using real life examples, he stressed that our relationships with parents, friends, teachers, should be based on trust and respect.

In the next session, Mr. Prajal Sakhardade, HOD of History, Dhempe College of Arts and Science, Panjim, delivered a talk on “History & Heritage of Goa” highlighting key historical events and cultural influences to encourage students to appreciate and preserve Goa’s rich heritage.

In the afternoon, Ms. Renu Amballoor, Investment Manager, FiiRE, explained to the students the concept of business idea incubation and the start-up incubation process being followed at the Forum for Innovation Incubation Research & Entrepreneurship (FiiRE).

Next Dr. D.S. Vidhya, HOD, ECS department & NPTEL coordinator conducted a session on “NPTEL MOOC courses” in which she explained about how to enrol for NPTEL courses, how to fill examination forms & timeline for 2025-26 examinations and. NPTEL Certificates. The importance of domain courses, mentor, NPTEL Stars was also highlighted.

This final session of the day was on “POSH Act” by Adv. Emidio Pinho, SCAN-Goa. Through various factual examples and video clips, Mr. Emidio explained the various provisions of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Act.

Day 9 (24th July 2025)

A field trip was organized for the students, accompanied by their class teachers and respective department faculty members.

  • Computer Engineering students visited the Water Treatment Plant, Salaulim, accompanied by faculty members Ms. Carol Cardozo, Mr. Kevin Pereira, Dr. Gaurang Patkar, Mrs. Manisha Fal Dessai, Ms. Sweta Morajkar and Ms. Floyd Fernandes.
  • Mechanical Engineering students visited IFB Industries Ltd., Washing Machine Division, Verna, accompanied by faculty members Mrs. Avila Naik, Mr. Tanay Rege and Mr. Sachin Turi.
  • ECS students were accompanied by Dr. Shreyas Simu, Ms. Esta Pereira and Mrs. Samprita Ghadi on their visit to Optel Vision India Pvt. Ltd. and Infinite 3D, Verna.
  • Civil Engineering students visited the Menezes Braganza House, Chandor, accompanied by faculty members Ms. Starina Dias, Mr. Jeffrey Valadares and Ms. Jesselyn Fernandes.

Day 10 (25th July 2025)

The final day of the SIP began with an inauguration of “Kshitij 2025” project exhibition, after which the students were taken around to view the various projects on display. These projects were created by students from DBCE and several other schools.

The entire SIP was coordinated by Mr. Harison Cota, Mr. Kevin Pereira and Mr. Esta Pereira from the Science & Humanities department headed by Dr. Kala Nayak.
