Field Visit to Salaulim Water Treatment Plant

  • formats

A field visit to the Salaulim Water Treatment Plant, Sanguem, was organized on 2nd May 2025 for 98 FE students by the Department of Science and Humanities. The students were accompanied by faculty members and gained valuable insights into the working of Goa’s largest water treatment facility.

The visit began with an informative session where plant officials meticulously explained the functioning of the Salaulim Dam and its crucial role in South Goa’s water supply. One key highlight was how, during dry seasons, up to 48 MLD (million litres per day) of treated water from Salaulim is pumped into the Kalay and Khandepar rivers to replenish the Opa-Khandepar system, which serves areas like Panaji, Ponda, and Tiswadi.

Students were also taken through the various stages of water treatment—aeration, sedimentation, filtration, chlorination, and pumping. Each stage was clearly explained with practical demonstrations, helping students connect theoretical knowledge with real-world applications.

The visit proved to be an enriching educational experience, enhancing the students’ understanding of water management and treatment infrastructure in Goa.
