FIELD VISIT TO VEDANTA LTD.

On 5th April 2017, the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Don Bosco College of Engineering organized an Industrial Visit to Vedanta Ltd, Iron Ore Division, Codli, for BE Mech student as a part of the curriculum. Vedanta Ltd, erstwhile SESA Goa, is the leading iron ore mine operators in Goa and a global giant in mineral industry with presence across Indian and overseas.

The students were initially briefed about the safety regulations and norms set up in practice by Vedanta Ltd, and the important Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) at workplace by Mr. Joseph Cohelo, Business Head, Iron Ore Goa Division. Mr Soumya Mishra, Asst Manager, enlightened the students about the operation practices in place at the mines and briefed about the various stages and processes leading to iron ore excavation and transportation and the logistical practices.

The students were taken on a guided tour by Mr Anuj Sankhaw and Mr Nobel Dias, from the maintenance department and explained students about the preventive and breakdown maintenance works done for heavy earthmoving machinery, dumpers and trucks. Students also got an exposure to the overhauling and maintenance techniques for all major systems of the machinery and trucks including engine, transmission, final drive, braking and steering etc. the Industrial visit concluded with a field visit to the mine excavation area where students got a first hand experience of the mining operations.

Asst. Prof Tanay Rege, Asst. Prof Raymond Joseph accompanied the students in their visit.
