GCCI IT “Tech Matters”

The GCCI IT & Start-Ups Committee in association with Google Developer’s Group (GDG) Goa and Women Techmakers (WTM) Goa is organizing a series of Talk sessions in various engineering colleges of Goa, with a common aim to build a strong tech community of industry professionals & students in the state of Goa.

The idea is to conduct regular meet-ups/ talks / seminars in colleges to augment the technical skills of students by equipping them with the knowledge of  Next-Gen technology like machine learning, Iot, web development, blockchain etc.

The second institute in the state to host this event was Don Bosco College of Engineering (DBCE), Fatorda, Goa on 24th August 2019. The speakers for the event were Mr. Abhishek Kumar and Ms. Dikshita Desai.

Ms. Dikshita Desai is an eminent member of the IT committee of GCCI, who leads GDG(Google Developers’ Group), WTM (Women Techmakers), PyLadies, Girlscript and Sheroes Goa. She delivered a very interesting session on Actions on Google covering topics such as Google assistant, machine learning for speech, various machine learning models, natural language processing. She spoke on how to build and deploy your own machine learning model with TensorFlow framework, Cloud Machine Learning Engine and how the ready to use models could be harnessed for applications directly. She also spoke on how dialog flow is used to generate commands to directly interact with the google assistant.

Mr. Abhishek Kumar is the founder and CEO at Saratech, a development and innovation hub based in Goa. He spoke on web development, perks of cruising into a career of web development, technologies to be learnt to venture into web development, the best way to learn them, career options, an insight into the do’s and don’ts in web development etc. He also shared his experience as how he started with web development, his journey and some tips to the students. It was a very interactive session that began with a quiz on tech logos.

At the end of the session the campus representatives of GDG- Goa, Mr. Vaishnav  Vharkat (TE Comp) and WTM-Goa, Ms.Stella Tom (TE Comp) introduced Google Developers’ Group and Women Techmakers  Community to the students. The faculty coordinator for the event was Prof. Christina Barretto. A total of 74 Students from second year and third year Computer attended the session.
