Institute Visit – Balram High School Canacona

Don Bosco College of Engineering (DBCE) organized a half-day institute visit for the students of Balram High School, Canacona, on 23rd January 2026. The visit was coordinated by the Mechanical Engineering Department with the objective of familiarizing school students with various engineering disciplines and encouraging early interest in technical education and emerging technologies.
The program began with an introductory session on engineering and career opportunities, conducted by Dr. Suraj Marathe, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, Dr. Gaurang Patkar, Head of the Computer Engineering Department, along with Ms. Sweta Morajkar and Dr. Chetan Gaonkar. The speakers highlighted the wide range of career paths available in engineering and emphasized the importance of developing skills aligned with modern and emerging technologies.

Following the introductory session, the students were taken on a guided tour of the department laboratories. The visit to the Automobile Engineering Laboratory was guided by Mr. Anish Bandekar, Assistant Professor, and Mr. Joyston Menezes, who explained the working and applications of various automobile systems. The students then visited the CNC Milling and Turning Centre, where Mr. Gaurish Samant, Assistant Professor, and Mr. Diptesh Naik demonstrated CNC milling and turning operations and discussed their importance in precision manufacturing. The Mechanical Workshop and Welding Centre visit was conducted by Workshop Superintendent Mr. Sanjeel Naik, who provided insights into workshop practices, machining processes, welding techniques, and safety measures.
The visit concluded with a live 3D printing demonstration and a tour of the Prototyping Laboratory, conducted by Mr. Sidhant Panjikar and Mr. Vignesh Prabhu from the Goa State Innovation Council. The students gained valuable exposure to rapid prototyping tools, additive manufacturing, and innovative design processes. The students were accompanied by faculty members from Balram High School, Canacona. An interactive session with Principal Dr. Neena Panandikar and Director Fr. Wilfred Fernandes marked the conclusion of the program, during which the students were encouraged to explore engineering as a career option and were provided with guidance for their academic and professional development.
