ISTE STTP on “Research Methodology: Tools, Techniques, and Strategies”

The Department of Electronics and Computer Science at Don Bosco College of Engineering hosted a week-long ISTE STTP on “Research Methodology: Tools, Techniques, and Strategies” from November 27 – December 1, 2023. The short term training programme was coordinated by Prof. Yeshudas Muttu and Prof. Mohini Naik. The workshop was attended by participants from various institutes, including Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Goa Multi-Faculty College, and Government Polytechnic Panaji, Government College of Arts, Science & Commerce, MES Vasant Joshi College of Arts & Commerce, Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Sant Sohirobanath Ambiye Government College of Art’s and Commerce, VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics and V.M. Salgaocar College of Law.

The inaugural ceremony featured Dr. Suhas S. Shetye, Senior Scientist Department of Chemical Oceanography. National Institute of Oceanography, Goa as the Chief Guest, emphasizing the significance of research. The event covered diverse topics over its duration.

In her first session, Dr. Parul Kumar discussed on research methodology, data collection methods, and provided an introduction to the statistical software SPSS.

The next day, Dr. Parul delivered into ‘Hypothesis Testing,’ explaining its systematic procedure to determine if research results support a theory. The day concluded with a session on regression and the use of Mendeley-Reference Manager.

The following day, Dr. Swati Agarwal explored strategies and organizational methods for preparing a literature review, emphasizing the importance of timelines and avoiding plagiarism. Dr. Chirag Modi discussed technical paper review, while Mr. Mohanish Bhandange highlighted the importance of plagiarism checks and recommended tools like Turnitin.

On day 4,  Dr. Mahesh S. Majik led two sessions, emphasizing generating and converting research ideas into proposals. He covered grant proposals, funding processes, budgeting, and engaged participants in activities. Dr. Majik discussed research, academics, and the distinctions between research proposals and grants. He shared insights on the entire research process, evaluating research questions, and showcased case studies, including his research on chemical compound purification. The second session delved into Research Promotion Schemes and Funding Agencies, exploring grant writing, proposal stages, and using relevant websites. The remaining session, led by Mr. Hannan Satopay, featured hands-on 3D modeling and simulation tools, including examples with Tinkercad like Dominos and water flow simulations. Participants created complex 3D shapes and models using various tools

Mr. Hannan Satopay conducted sessions on AI tools for research.

The Valedictory function on Dec 1, 2023, featured Mr. Hannan Satopay as the Chief Guest. Prof. Deron Rodrigues and Prof. Mathilda Colaco hosted the inaugural and valedictory function. The workshop coordinator, Prof. Yeshudas Muttu, presented the overall report of the event, and the participants shared their feedback. Prof. Mohini Naik delivered the vote of thanks, concluding the valedictory function. Overal, the workshop provided a comprehensive exploration of research methodologies, tools, and practical applications, enriching participants from diverse educational backgrounds.
