Kshitij 2018 – A Project Exposition, the first of its kind in Goa, was inaugurated in the august presence of Her Excellency, Smt Mrudula Sinha, Hon. Governor of Goa at Don Bosco College of Engineering on 26th July 2018. Speaking on the occasion, the Governor remembered the martyrs on the Kargil Diwas and urged the students to work for the betterment of the nation. Elaborating on how Kshitij can set boundaries and also encourage people to dream, she encouraged students to have more affection and empathy for society, and not just learn to construct or create. She requested educational institutions to create more humans, rather than just engineers.

Fr. Felix Fernandes, Provincial, Panjim-Konkan Don Bosco Province, Rector Fr. Paul D’Souza, Fr. Kinley D’Cruz – Director Don Bosco College of Engineering, Principal Dr Neena Panandikar, and Convenor of Kshitij Prof Ajit Salunke were the other dignitaries on the occasion. Earlier, Fr. Felix Fernandes welcomed the gathering and explained how the college not only focuses on technical excellence but on providing holistic learning environment that includes everyone. Dr Neena Panandikar introduced the Chief Guest and Prof. Ajit Salunke gave a brief Introduction to Kshitij 2018. Prof. Mithil Parab proposed the Vote of Thanks.

Kshitij, an annual project exhibition that was introduced as an opportunity to promote employability, innovation and creativity among engineering & school students coordinated by Prof. Sachin Turi & Prof. Mithil Parab showcased projects in 5 different categories this year. Around 51 exhibits under Academic category by students of Don Bosco College of Engineering & other engineering colleges of Goa were displayed along 21 Mini Technical projects and 12 science projects by students of DBCE. A project competition was organized in association with ISHRAE Goa Chapter for school students which had 12 teams participating in senior & junior categories. Besides the student projects, several industries also exhibited their models. These include Shanta Pumps, Infinite 3D, Upgrade, Elementronix and Autotech. Manovikas and Dr. K.B. Hedgewar High school also displayed student’s projects which were not part of the competition.

A one day Hands on Workshop on “Introduction to Robotics” for secondary and higher secondary school science teachers as a parallel event. Mr Rajaram Parsekar, Proprietor, Elementronics, Prof. Ajit Salunke, Associate Professor and Prof. Gaurang Patkar, Assistant Professor from Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, Goa were the resource person for the one day Hands on Workshop on “Introduction to Robotics”. The workshop began with the brief introduction on Robotics and a practical session on Robotics, where teachers got hands on experience using Arduino Nano. Prof. Ajit Salunke delivered lecture on Case studies in Robotics and Prof. Gaurang Patkar explained basic concepts of Robotics. The workshop concluded with the question and answer session and discussions between audience and the speakers. Altogether 23 Teachers from prestigious schools of Goa like Don Bosco Farm High School, Sulcorna, St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School, Mapusa, St. Joseph’s Institute, Vasco –Da-Gama, Manovikas English Medium School, Dr. K.B. Hedgewar High school, Cujira, Keshav Smruti High School, Fr. Agnel Multipurpose High School, Verna, St. Andrews Institute, Government Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, Deepvihar High School and  Higher Secondary School, Vasco, The New Educational Institute, Curchorem, Mahila and Nutan English High School, Comba, and P. E.S.S.R.S.N Higher Secondary School, Ponda. Prof. Sharad Shanbhag and Prof. Swaroopa Sail were the co-ordinators of the workshop.

Day 2

UPGRADE (Kakode Group) organised a Seminar on Introduction to Power Tools & Water Proofing Solutions for the Mechanical students on 27th July 2018. Mr Rajgopal, Marketing Executive Bosch Goa region delivered a session on various Bosch power tools  while Mr Manoj Kumar, Sales Executive of SIKA Goa region presented the seminar on a Various Water proofing techniques. Mr Stedwick Fernandes, Executive UPGRADE (Kakode) hosted the session and Prof. Gaurish Samant was the coordinator.

The Training and Placement Cell in association with National Institute of Personnel Managers (NIPM) _ Goa Chapter organised an HR Summit to bridge the gap between academia and industry. More than 50 HR delegates from all across the Goa region attended the summit. Mr. Manoj Kharde, Chairman – NIPM Goa Chapter was the chief guest and encouraged the participants to become members of NIPM. The first session was delivered by Prof Nila Nayak, Visiting Lecturer at GIM on the topic Talent Acquisition in the Digital Age. She explained how IT has transformed the HR sector and how software can help ease HR duties. Mr.Durgesh Pai Angle, Head HR at Unichem Labs spoke on the Recent Trends in HR and how data analytics plays a huge role in helping HR make better decisions. The last session was delivered by Mr George Ninan, Ex HR Adventz Ltd. on HR Mind. Mr Ninan explained the Managerial Grid and modified it to a HR Perspective. Earlier Director Fr. Kinley welcomed the participants and spoke about how generation and perspective changes affect business. Principal Dr. Neena Panandikar highlighted the college journey over the last one year and TPO Mr. Rajesh Gaonkar showcased the activities of the Training and Placement Cell.

Day 3

A seminar on “Career in engineering” was organised on 28th July for the students of X, XI, XII as a part of Kshitij 2018. Around 60 students of various schools from across Goa participated in the event. The students were welcomed by the Director Fr. Kinley D’Cruz who spoke about the need of engineers in the society and the diversity in all fields which are interdisciplinary. Principal Dr.Neena Panandikar mentioned that the decision of joining engineering should be one’s own and only then one learns passionately. Prof Ajit Salunke introduced engineering to students. He spoke on the various career options for mechanical engineers and the broad areas of mechanical engineering Prof Deron Rodrigues explained about electronics and telecommunication engineering and its applications in real world. Prof Jeffrey Valadares explained about the various aspects in Civil Engineering and the future scope of the branch. Prof Vivek Jog mentioned about the various careers available in the field of computer engineering and the job packages in the field of IT. Prof Swapnil Ramani briefly explained the students about getting into engineering in the state of Goa.  The event was coordinated by Prof Christina Barrett and Prof Sanjeel Naik.

Kshitij 2018 concluded with a valedictory and prize distribution ceremony on the last day 28th July 2018.  Mr. Rajkumar Kamat, President GSIA & Proprietor E. P. Kamat Group was the chief guest. Citing the example of his daughter, Mr. Kamat encouraged the students to take on a career they are passionate about. He was happy about the innovative projects of the students and urged the college to continue the initiative. Rector Fr. Paul D’Souza, Fr. Kinley D’Cruz- Director Don Bosco College of Engineering, Principal Dr Neena Panandikar, Mr. K. K. Sarkar, K-12 Chair, ISHRAE Goa Chapter and Convenor of Kshitij Prof Ajit Salunke were the other dignitaries on the occasion. Prof. Sachin Turi proposed the Vote of Thanks.
