National Level Technical Webinar

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Don Bosco College of Engineering (DBCE) Fatorda – Goa, organized a national level technical webinar on November 18, 2021. Honorable speaker for this event was Dr. Shekhar Deepak Singh, Professor & Research Scientist, Research Institute of Humanity and Nature (RIHN) – Japan. The webinar was themed “Can Technology alone solve the challenges of climate change? – Rethinking, training and operational paradigms for future Engineers”

Dr. Deepak Singh is working as a Researcher in the WG-1 of Project Aakash and is trying to help show the linkages of air pollution in northern parts of India with historically embedded socio-economic and environmental realities. Dr. Singh is an electrical engineer turned social scientist with a PhD in Science Policy from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. He has over fifteen years of cumulative industrial, field and academic experience and his areas of interest are in Energy, Environment and Public Policy.

This talk mainly covered the following five aspects:

• Understanding Science, Engineering and Technology.
• Contextualize climate change and sustainable development in Global, National (Indian) and local context. 
• The role of Engineering Education and Engineers in such scenario. 
• A case study related to above discussion.
• Future prospects.

The webinar was presented in a very apt manner, providing students from various parts of the country a broader perspective about how they can not only build a bright future for themselves with the Engineering education but also a sustainable socio-economic environment at a global level to grow, keeping mother nature as healthier than ever.

It was an amazing experience conducting the event virtually and was attended by over 100 participants across the country, the efforts of the entire team had paid off. The event was successfully conducted by the event coordinators Professor Dr. H. K. Amarnath, Prof. Amey Patil, were supported and guided by Prof. Ajit Salunke, Head of Department of  Mechanical Engineering.
