NSS REPORT FOR 2017-18

The NSS unit of Don Bosco College of Engineering, started in the year 2012-13, is currently in its 6th year.

The strength of the NSS unit for academic year 2017-18  is 100 volunteers, including 29 girls.

Keeping in mind the NSS moto “Not Me, but You”, round the year, the NSS volunteers participated in various social works and personality development programmes and rendered their time and energy for the benefit of others. The following is the list of activities done/attended by the NSS volunteers during 2017-18:

1)   Volunteering/participating at “Kshitij” project exhibition held at DBCE from 27th to 29th  July 2017 (83 volunteers).

2)   Independence Day Celebrations on 15th August 2017 (85 volunteers).

3)   Blood donation camp held on 1st September 2017 at DBCE in association with Blood Bank, Hospicio Hospital, Margao. (39 volunteers donated and 16 volunteers helped)

4)   Helped during the Teachers’ Day / Freshers’ Day Celebrations held on 5th September 2017 at DBCE. (05 volunteers)

5)   Took part in Tree Plantation Ceremony conducted at DBCE on 9th September 2017. (24 volunteers)

6)   Served as volunteers during the FIFA U-17 world cup football tournament held at Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda from 6th to 28th October 2017. (13 volunteers)

7)   Took part in the “Swachta hi Seva” cleanliness drive on 16th October 2017 at DBCE. (46 volunteers)

8)   Helped in cleaning and arranging books in the DBCE library. (22 volunteers)

9)   Took part in the poster painting competition and essay writing competition was held on the occasion of National Youth Day on 12th January 2018 at DBCE. (12 volunteers)

10) NSS Special Camp:

The NSS unit of Don Bosco College of Engineering had is annual Special Camp from 23rd to 27th January 2018 at Rachol Seminary, Rachol. Twenty-seven (27) NSS volunteers attended the camp including 18 girls. The volunteers were accompanied by staff members Prof. Harison Cota (NSS Programme Officer), Prof. Avertano Barreto (Sports Officer) and lady staff Prof. Starina Dias (Civil Engineering Department).

The work undertaken was: cleaning of a mango orchard by cutting wild grass and collecting dried leaves. The volunteers were also given a tour of the Rachol Seminary by Bro. Pauli D’Costa explaining its rich history and priceless artifacts. The camp also involved a trek from Rachol seminary to Don Bosco College of Engineering to take part in the Republic Day flag hoisting ceremony. The volunteers presented a cultural programme consisting of a mime, moral based skit, dance performances, NSS song, and comedy skits by the staff. The cultural programme was attended by Rev. Dr. Aleixo Menezes (Rector, Rachol Seminary), Rev. Dr. Nelson Sequeira (Professor, Rachol Seminary), Fr. Kinley D’Cruz (Director, DBCE), Fr. Marvin Vaz (Youth Animator, DBCE), Dr. Neena Panandikar (Principal, DBCE), some other priests and staff from Rachol Seminary and Don Bosco College of Engineering. The cultural programme was followed by dinner and camp-fire.

11) Republic Day Celebrations at DBCE on 26th January 2018 (48 volunteers).

12) Blood donation camp held on 9th March 2018 at DBCE in association with Blood Bank, Hospicio Hospital, Margao. (67volunteers donated blood while 25 volunteers helped)

13) Eye Donation Awareness Camp was held on 30th April 2018 in association with SAKSHAM GOA, an NGO. (35 volunteers attented the camp along with other students and staff)
