The National Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, 2015 has projected a shortage of 109 million skilled persons by 2022 and called for an integrated effort to step up skilling of youth under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana(PMKVY).
Keeping in view, it is decided by the Ministry of Human Resource Development that All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi will run the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) to train the unemployed youth in engineering skills through AICTE approved Engineering colleges and Polytechnics. The Technical Institutions/ Polytechnics have to utilize their existing infrastructure and resources for offering these courses in the off-college hours such that the unemployed youth enrolled for these courses shall acquire adequate skills under the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) and find suitable placement/self-employment.
