REPORT OF FE STUDENT INDUCTION PROGRAM 2023-24 (Phase II)
The Science & Humanities Department of Don Bosco College of Engineering conducted the second phase of the Student Induction Program (SIP) from 23rd to 25th January 2024. The Induction Programme was co-ordinated by Institute Induction Programme Cell (IIPC) members Mr. Harison Cota & Ms. Vaishali Parakhi under the leadership of Dr. Kala Nayak, Registrar & HOD, Science & Humanities Department. While the first phase of the SIP held from 7th to 12th August 2023 had resource persons mostly from within the institute, the second phase had invited external speakers.
23rd January 2023
Dr. Veerendra Sharma and Dr. Jayshankar Dubey from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai delivered a session on ‘Physics of Materials using neutron diffraction’. Dr. Veerendra explained the students the difference between x-ray diffraction and neutron diffraction along with their applications. He highlighted that BARC, Mumbai is the only place in India which provides neutron diffraction facility. Dr. Dubey spoke about the facilities at BARC, Mumbai an invited the students for a visit to the facility.
24th January 2024
The speaker for the orientation session was Ms. Poonam Shirsat, Life Coach, Founder Director of The Skill Company. She gave a motivating talk on ‘Facing challenges with a smile’. She initially showed the students how people who we consider successful have to undergo lots of challenges and hard work to attain success. She also explained how to change negative situations in life into positive ones.

The speaker for the final day of the SIP was Dr. Joline Fernandes, Immunity, Lifestyle & Wellness Consultant. She delivered a session on Health & Nutrition in which she emphasised that “it is important to eat to be healthy rather than to have a good physique”. Dr. Joline encouraged the students to eat healthy food prepared at home rather than fast food. She also highlighted that almost all health problems we face today are because of unhealthy eating habits which leads to improper digestion. Daily exercise is also an important aspect of healthy living, she added.
