Report of session on Introduction to AI & ML under Vidnyan Dhara 2023

As a part of the National Science Day celebration, Goa State Higher Education Council and the Directorate of Higher Education organised a “Vidnyan Dhara 2023” – a mega science series to celebrate National Science Day 2023. In view of the same, a talk was organised at Rosary Higher Secondary School, Navelim on February 6, 2023. The resource person for the talk was Dr. Shreyas Simu, Assistant Professor, ECS Department at Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda. Dr. Simu educated the students on the topic- “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning”. A total of 140 students from Science and Art streams were in attendance.

The highlights of the talk included: Approaches to AI, Turing test, Strong and weak AI, Machine Learning structure and Applications, Machine Learning Algorithms, Signal and Image processing Applications, Robotics and Computer Vision. The speaker emphasized on the role of machine learning to solve complex problems. He mentioned “Basic mathematics like linear algebra and trigonometry are very useful in solving complex problems”.

The session was very interactive as there was a continuous exchange of ideas. The talk was very resourceful in terms of gaining knowledge, ideas and an insight into different AI applications, thereby, awakening the need to use it effectively and to be innovative. Alirio Silveira Souza, student from 12^th Science provided feedback on the talk and expressed his views on the topic. The session concluded with Q&A session.
