Report on IIC activity Why IP is important in Academia

As part of IIC program, MIC, more than 10 staff members from Department of Computer Engineering of Don Bosco College of Engineering attended third MIC DRIVEN ACTIVITY of Quarter, a Session on “ Why IP is important in academia?” on April, 26, 2021. The session was delivered by DR. Abhay Jere, Chief Innovation Officer, MoE’s Innovation Cell and DR.Mohit Gambhir, Innovation Director, MoE’s Innovation Cell.

Dr. Abhay Jere shared the efforts that the entire IIC team has put in making the program a huge success since inception. He addressed that this is just a start and there is lot to be done so far as innovation ecosystem is concerned. He explained how initiatives like KAPILA sparked the

trend of filling of IP. He explained how we can convert idea into wealth by making appropriate use of the IP ecosystem that needs to be built effectively.

Dr. Mohit discussed the role of a Professor at local college level or university outside the classroom. He stressed on the fact that as a teacher one should focus not only on gathering of data and writing research papers but also making an attempt in commercialization of startup ideas. He explained how IPT is an effective mechanism in dissemination of knowledge. Effective IP management and integration of research with IP as well as IP Audits were some of the key areas he focussed on.
