REPORT ON PUBLIC LECTURE IN BITS PILANI

A Public Lecture was organized as part of the IEEE APSCON conference by Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani- Goa on 24^th January 2024. The Speaker for day was Shri.Somanath S. Secretary, Department of Space (GoI) and Chairman, ISRO. Mr. Somanath delivered a lecture titled “India’s Space Journey: in National & Global Perspective”. Ms. Esta Pereira, Assistant Professor in Chemistry with 19 students of Don Bosco College of Engineering attended the talk.

Prof. V Ramgopal Rao, Vice-Chancellor BITS Pilani-K. K Goa Campus extended a warm welcome to the chairman, briefing about his remarkable journey and expressed gratitude for his presence on the campus.

Mr. Somanath spoke about the application of space technology towards Disaster Management, Green Economy, Environmental and Pollution Monitoring. He further discussed monitoring of the impact of climate change with respect to global warming. He highlighted the scientific missions regarding study of Venus atmosphere followed by Mars Orbiter Mission. The talk contributed to the discourse of the past, present and future endeavours of ISRO. He also highlighted how India was the first nation to have a soft landing on lunar South Pole region of the moon. The lecture enlightened the young minds of the students.
