Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2025 is a nationwide initiative that provides students with a platform to solve pressing real-life problems, fostering a culture of product innovation and problem-solving. Through SIH, students gain the opportunity to work on challenges from various Ministries, Departments, Industries, PSUs, and NGOs, while also showcasing their potential to the private sector and top organizations.

As part of this initiative, Don Bosco College of Engineering organized an Internal Institute Level Hackathon in the form of an Idea Competition to shortlist teams for participation at the national level. The event, open to students of all years and branches, was held on Tuesday, 18th September 2025, on campus. A total of 12 interdisciplinary teams, each comprising six members, took part in the competition and presented their innovative ideas.

The jury panel included Ms. Renu Amballoor, Investment Manager at FiiRE, Dr. Norman Dias, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering and TPO, and Dr. Shreyas Simu, Associate Professor and Assistant TPO. The panel engaged actively with the participants, offering constructive feedback and suggestions during the presentations.

Present for the competition was Principal Dr. Neena Panandikar, whose constant motivation has been instrumental in encouraging students to excel. She inspired the participants with her words and shared valuable inputs throughout the event.

In accordance with the SIH 2025 rules, all 12 teams were shortlisted. The innovative ideas covered diverse fields such as Smart Education, Travel and Tourism, and Clean and Green Technology. The teams were evaluated out of 50 points across five categories: Ideation, Innovation and Design, Technical Feasibility, Sustainability/Scalability, and Presentation.

The event was successfully coordinated by Mr. Swapnil Ramani, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and SPOC–SIH 2025, along with Mr. Selvyn Fernandes, Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics and Computer Science and Internal Hackathon Co-ordinator for SIH 2025.
