Talk on Gas turbines and rocket engines by Commander Carvalho

A talk on Gas turbines and Rocket engines was delivered by Commander Carvalho to the students of BE Mechanical, DBCE Fatorda on 23^rd August 2019. Commander Carvalho talked about various types of gas turbine engines, their operation and uses. He touched upon the use cases of engines in aircrafts and helicopters while also talking about the working principles of aircrafts themselves and their operating requirements. He spoke about various sub systems of military aircrafts stressing on ejection systems and their propulsion systems.

He then proceeded to enlighten the audience about rocket engines. He initiated the topic by highlighting the achievements of the latest ISRO mission to the moon. He spoke about the solid rocket boosters which powered the launcher this initiating the topic of types of rocket engines. He spoke about the combustion chamber patterns present in solid rocket motors. Commander Carvalho also spoke about basic topics of engineering.

Commander Carvalho spoke about career in the Navy and the merchant navy. He spoke about various opportunities available. The selection process for each of these domains as well as physical requirements for the same was covered .

Students had an opportunity to interact with a veteran of the services and a really learned individual.
