The Teaching Learning & Education (TLET) Cell of Don Bosco College of Engineering, in association with the IQAC Cell, DBCE, organized a “Talk on Outcome-Based Education” on 29th March 2025. The event commenced with Prof. Vaishali Parakhi welcoming the speaker, Dr. Raghunath Ratabole, Professor of Physics at BITS Pilani-Goa.

Dr. Raghunath delivered an insightful presentation on Assessing Student Learning: Program Assessment and the Discipline-Based Education Research Perspective. He emphasized the principles of Outcome-Based Education (OBE), which focuses on ensuring that students achieve specific, measurable learning outcomes by the end of a course or program. He explained that OBE shifts the focus from teaching to student learning, prioritizing the development of essential skills and competencies that students must demonstrate through assessments. This approach aligns education with real-world requirements and professional standards, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for their careers.

Prof. Raghunath highlighted that OBE fosters a student-centered learning environment, encouraging active engagement in achieving clearly defined learning goals. He elaborated on crucial aspects of OBE, including constructs and variables, assessment methods, course outcomes, program outcomes, program educational objectives, and program-specific outcomes. Additionally, he introduced the concept of discipline-based education research and discussed how preconceptions can act as barriers to student learning. He emphasized that deep understanding requires well-organized knowledge and highlighted effective strategies for facilitating conceptual change, such as bridging analogies, interactive demonstrations, and multiple representations.

The event concluded with Prof. Vaishali Parakhi expressing gratitude to Dr. Raghunath Ratabole for delivering an insightful and informative session on Outcome-Based Education.
