Talk on Outcome Based Education for Mechanical Engineering Students

The Mechanical Engineering Department of Don Bosco College of Engineering conducted a talk on “Outcome-Based Education” for its students on 27th January 2025. Prof. Ajit Salunke, an Associate Professor in the Department, served as the speaker. At the outset, Principal, Dr. Neena Panandikar briefly highlighted the significance of outcome-based education.
Prof. Ajit discussed the objective of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and its role in ensuring that students achieve specific, measurable learning outcomes by the end of a course or program. He emphasized that OBE shifts the focus from teaching to student learning, highlighting skills and competencies demonstrated through assessments. He explained that OBE aligns education with real-world needs and professional standards, preparing graduates for their careers. Additionally, he highlighted how OBE fosters student-centered learning, actively engaging students in achieving defined learning goals.
Prof. Ajit explained the key features of Outcome-Based Education (OBE), including vision and mission statements, course outcomes, program outcomes, program educational objectives, and program-specific outcomes. He also discussed Bloom’s Taxonomy hierarchy of learning and various assessment tools used for evaluation.
Dr. Avil Dsa, Department NBA Coordinator and DQAC Chairman, thanked Prof. Ajit for delivering an insightful session that enlightened the students on Outcome-Based Education.
