Talk on “Simulation in Science” at Vidnyan Dhara 2025 by Dr. Suraj Marathe

Dr Suraj Marathe, an Associate Professor in the Mechanical Department at DBCE, presented a lecture titled, “Use of Simulation in Science” was conducted at Utkarsh High School, Rivona, on 5th February 2025, as part of Vidnyan Dhara 2025, a Mega series initiated by the Goa State Higher Education Council (GSHEC) and The Directorate of Higher Education (DHE), an engaging science series aimed at fostering scientific curiosity among young individuals.
In the beginning, lighting of the lamp followed, proceeded by a floral welcome to the speaker, by Headmistress, Sarojini. Tr. Gauravi Naik, introduced the resource person Dr. Suraj Marathe to the audience.
Dr. Marathe introduced the Vidnyan Dhara 2025, science series by showing a small video. He introduced the concept of simulation and explained its importance in different fields such as science experiments, cricket, military training, aircraft design, air conditioning etc. To make the topic more relatable, he used gaming as an example, encouraging students to think beyond just playing games and consider how they are created. He also emphasized the importance of mathematical concepts like algebra, variables, and word problems, helping students understand their practical applications. A key message from the session was that, “The difference between your dream life and your present life is discipline,” inspiring students to develop good habits for success. Additionally, he spoke about how simulation is widely used in industries, giving students insight into its career possibilities.
The session was well received by the students, who found it interesting and relevant. The use of gaming as an example helped them connect with the topic, and they expressed curiosity to learn more. They also gained a better understanding of why subjects like science and mathematics are important in real life. Overall, the session was an enriching experience that provided valuable knowledge and practical insights, leaving a positive impact on the students.
The event took place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and was attended by 85 students. At the end of the session, Tr. Gauravi Naik proposed the vote of thanks.
