TE MECH Field Visit to Godrej & Boyce, Shree Mahalaxmi Industries, Netzsch Pumps and Vinka Industries

On 31^st August 2019, students of Third Year Mechanical Engineering of Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda visited Godrej & Boyce, Shree Mahalaxmi Industries at Madkai industrial Estate and Netzsch Pumps, Vinka Industries in Verna Industrial Estate. The visit was organized in association, Mechanical Engineering Student Hub (MESH). Students were accompanied by Prof. Ajit Salunke , Prof. Swapnil Ramani , Prof. Sanjeel Naik and Prof. Gaurish Samant.

Godrej and Boyce Manufacturing Co. Ltd provides Locking Solutions and Systems for a variety of applications. The plant is divided into 3 major Sections: Production & Automation, Assembly and Surface finishing & Quality Control. The production of the key and locking mechanism is fully automated and carried out by CNC Turning and Vertical milling machines. The students were shown how the intricate grooves as well as  mechanism of the Key and locking system are machined. Broaching , Cam operated lathe machine and automatic 3 Axis Drilling machine for manufacture of lock and key components were explained to the students. Sheet metal working operations like blanking piercing , slotting using compound and progressive dies were also shown. Die casting process followed for lock manufacture was also covered in depth. The Assembly operation is carried out with a combination of automated as well as manual assembly .The surface finishing operations like Burnishing and Electroplating are carried out before dispatching the products to the market. The Kanban System is strictly followed for Quality Control and 5S followed on the shop floor. Shree Mahalaxmi Industries manufactures precision machined components and machining of heavy fabricated components used in various industries. They produce machined motor and rotor casings for petrochemical applications. The students were explained the working a CNC machine with a demonstration of machining of motor casing. The students were also exposed to CNC vertical milling machine . Conventional Lathe and milling operations were also demonstrated to the students. Netzsch Technology Pvt. Ltd is a manufacturing plant of highly customized pumps that are used in industrial application. The students were introduced to the major departments of manufacturing of pump such as material inspection ,machining , assembly and store. They were briefed about the various processes for material inspection and working of vertical and horizontal CNC machines. Whirling operation of rods was also shown.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Various parts such as rotor, stator manufacturing and assembly was shown. The process of shot blasting and polishing of components was also demonstrated Vinka Industries manufactures new age diamond cutting tools for sutting stones and marbles efficiently without much wastage. Manufacturing details and equipment like wire saw, gang saw ,circular saw etc were explained. Various processes like volumetric cold pressing  , wet and dry mixing ,brazing , reduction , sintering etc were demonstrated

.The Visit was coordinated by Prof. Ajit Salunke and Prof. Swapnil Ramani . Overall  it was a very enlightening and learning experience for the students of TE Mechanical.
