The Teaching Learning & Education Cell

The Teaching Learning & Education Technology cell of Don Bosco College of engineering organized a Staff Orientation Programme for the newly appointed staff of Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda and Don Bosco College, Panjim on 26^th July 2024.

In the presence of Rev. Fr. Kinley, Director, and Dr Neena Panandikar, Principal, the event began with the Rector, Rev. Fr. Ralin D’souza’s Session. Fr. Ralin introduced the Don Bosco society and the patron saint, Don Bosco. He spoke about the early life of Don Bosco and his vision, which led him to start the first Don Bosco oratory in Turin. He mentioned the prominent education systems established all over the world, and spoke about Don Bosco’s preventive system of education in particular. He explained reason, religion and loving kindness to be the three pillars of the Bon Bosco’s preventive system of education.

Rev. Fr. Joaquim Lobo, Director of Don Bosco College, Panjim, delivered the second session. He spoke about qualities of a great teacher citing couple of example of recipient of the global best teacher awards such as Naincie Atwell, Hanan Al Roubh, Maggie Mcdonnel and many more. He observed that great teachers are the ones who passionately work for the underprivileged. He explained how the Don Bosco Approach was to prepare the students for real life challenges, with a list of pointers such as presence, active learning, clear learning objectives, student centric approach, feedback and many more.

Rev. Fr. Banzelao Teixeira delivered the third session. He said that patient, closeness inner freedom and maturity to be the 4 important qualities an educator must possess. He explained the art of accompaniment with 7 pointers such as welcoming attitude, challenge, confidence environment, crises, decision, and commitment.

Rev. Fr. Kinley D’Cruz delivered the final session on the importance of presence in the Don Bosco way of education. He explained the presence of an educator to be a Disciplining presence, an involved presence, and familial presence, a creative presence, an optimistic presence a joyful presence, an elevating presence, a vocational presence and a passionate presence. He explained how the presence of an educator is a commitment that he/ she make to the young, to the institution, to God, to the community and to oneself. He emphasized the elevated position of the profession to be a vacation from God and a path to holiness and a path to one’s salvation. The session ended on a thank you note by the compere.
