Etc Internship

As a part of the In-house training for third year Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering students, the ETC Department of Don Bosco College of Engineering, in association with D-BEATS organized a ‘Two week internship programme from 2nd July to 13th July, 2018.
The sessions for the first week (2nd to 6th July 2018) were delivered by Mr. Zain Rajani, ALUMNI of ETC Department, Don Bosco College of Engineering.
First days’ sessions began with an introductory and interactive talk on “Introduction to VLSI Manufacturing”, followed by sessions on Modeling Using Verilog. He guided the students in installing the software; thereafter he explained the types of Modeling in Verilog, Usage of Operators and Features of Verilog
On the second day the following contents were covered: Blocking and Non-Blocking Statements, User Defined Primitives, Modeling Finite State Machines (FSM) and Switch Level Modeling.
Sessions on the third day involved writing codes and Test Benches for various Digital Circuits such as adders, subtractors, multiplexers, demultiplexers etc.
The fourth day began with session on “Introduction to R Programming” in which the resource person explained the need of R and its usage. This was followed by a demo of running first script in R Software. The speaker then explained the various built in functions in R, Matrices in R and their operations, Missing Data in R and Logical Operators in R.
Fifth day session included the coverage of the following topics: Loops and Data Management in R, Operation on Strings, Importing and Exporting Data in R, Dealing with Data Frames, Statistics in R and Graphics in R.
During the second week of In-house training (9th to 12th July), the sessions were delivered by Mr. Rajaram Parsekar, Entrepreneur, Elementronix, who provided hands on experience to students on Rasberry Pi and Arduino.
On the first day the resource person commenced with a session on Introduction to Linux, in which he explained evolution of computer & operating system, Linux operating system and its comparison with other operating systems, Linux kernel and file system and Distributions of Linux. Some basic Linux terminal commands were then introduced.
Second day commenced with a technical session on “Introduction to Raspberry Pi”, which included hardware and software, Linux shell scripting language and its applications on Raspberry Pi. Thereafter the students were introduced to Python on Raspberry Pi, wherein basic syntaxes and programs with python were covered.

On the third day student had hands on experience in interfacing LEDs, LCDs, motors and Relays with Raspberry Pi.
On the fourth day Arduino was introduced to the students. After explaining its hardware and software, students programmed the LEDs, LCD, motors and Relays using Arduino. This was followed by a discussion on trends in technology and ideas for projects in future.
On the fifth day the students were taken for a field trip to Siemens-Verna and National Centre for Antarctic and Ocean Research Centre, Vasco.
At Siemens, students were explained and shown in batches the process of how PCBs are made for various devices and how products are manufactured.
At NCAOR Centre, Dr. M.V. Ramesh gave an introductory talk about the Antarctic continent and an insight into the research work carried out by the Indian scientists and the Research unit of India. Multiple video presentations were shown to the students to give them a proper and in depth idea of how flora and fauna survive on the icy continent. Dr. M.V. Ramesh also discussed various Electronics equipment’s that are used to collect data.
The two week in-house training was an enriching experience for the students as they got a technical know-how on various fields on Electronics. The training was organized by DBEATS Staff coordinators, Prof. Melba D’Souza and Prof. Deron Rodrigues.
