Visit to Institute of Maritime Studies (IMS)
The faculty of Department of Mechanical Engineering – Don Bosco College of Engineering (DBCE) visited the campus of Institute of Maritime studies (IMS), Vasco on 30th October 2021. The time shares milestones of achieving 25 years of completion for IMS and 10 years for DBCE.
The session commenced with a welcome note from Mr Deepak Shah, Director of IMS and Mr Ajay A. Tambwekar, Dy. Director IMS. Mr Deepak Shah introduced marine engineering to DBCE faculty from training to career prospects. He elaborated the teaching learning process at IMS in the pandemic times. The marine field being fully practical oriented, IMS introduced virtual reality to enable the students to take a tour to vessels and get acquainted with the different aspects of ships that are difficult to learn through online classes. Various new laboratories, simulators and courses have been introduced to ensure the quality of training remains intact in the pandemic times.
The presentation was followed by a visit to various laboratories of IMS. The DBCE faculties were guided by the IMS faculties Mr Tanuj Kumar, Mr Heston Dias, Mr Akash Chowdhary, Mr Vivek Pai, Mr Francis Fernades, Mr Rohan Shirodkar and Mr Sudesh Gaonkar. The campus tour included visits to Engine room simulator, Virtual Reality station, Welding shop, marine workshop and Automation lab.
A session was conducted to discuss various platforms the two institutes can share to prepare mechanical students to take up marine engineering as a career. Mr Ajit Salunke, HOD Department of Mechanical Engineering, DBCE put forth various avenues both institutes can handshake to carry forward the ties in future endeavours.
