Webinar on Cryogenics – Space Applications

The DBCE ISHRAE students Chapter organized a webinar on “Cryogenics & Space Applications” on the occasion of Engineer’s Day on September 15, 2020. The event was hosted on the Google Meet platform from 10.00 AM to 12.30 pm. There were a total of 110 participants. Industry professionals, Academician and Mechanical Engineering students attended the webinar. The event was hosted and coordinated by Prof. Sharad Shanbhag and Prof. Mayur Shetti while the External Dignitaries and Staff joined in remotely from the comfort and safety of their workplaces and homes. The resource person for the talk was Dr. S. Kasthrirengan, Retired Professor, Centre for Cryogenics, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

The event was initiated by Prof. Mayur Shetti who welcomed the participants and gave a brief introduction about Dr. S. Kasthrirengan.

Dr. S.Kasthrirengan started his lecture by giving a brief introduction to cryogenics, current scenario and trends of Indian research and development in cryogenics. He spoke about various gas Liquefaction cycles, cryo – coolers. The lecture stressed more on space applications of cryogenics. The participants learned about Cryogenic engine; cooling of satellite, space simulation etc. The lecture was concluded by short videos on applications of cryogenics.

At the end of the talk the session was open for questions from participants. The Head of the Department, Prof. Ajit Salunke, thanked the resource person and participants. Dr. Neena Panandikar thanked the resource person and appreciated the efforts of the faculty. Mr Devanand Paterkar, President ISHRAE Goa Chapter addressed the gathering and spoke about the importance of cryogenics in curriculum. Mr. Milind Sardesai , CWC member, ISHRAE Goa Chapter said that more programs on Cryogenics should be conducted.

The webinar concluded by motivational words from Dr. S. Kasthrirengan regarding need of skilled Engineer’s in Cryogenics domain.
