Mix Design Workshop for Third Year Students

  • formats

A one-day Concrete Mix Design workshop was organized by the Civil Engineering Department of Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, on 24 October 2025. The workshop aimed to enhance student understanding of the Mix Design methodology as per the revised IS 10262:2019 standards, while also providing practical exposure to batching, mixing, slump testing and concrete casting procedures.

The first session featured an introduction to IS 10262:2019 delivered by Prof. Shruti Jambhale, giving students a clarity on the updated guidelines and mix proportioning concepts. The second session involved solving a numerical exercise on Mix Design as per the Indian Standard Code, helping students translate theoretical parameters into design calculations.

In the afternoon, third-year students were given hands-on experience with mix design trials and specimen casting in the Concrete Technology Laboratory. Participants carried out the Slump Cone test, Compaction Factor test and successfully conducted mix preparation for M30 grade concrete, followed by cube casting for further testing. A total of 48 students attended the workshop, which took place in the TE Civil classroom. The event effectively combined theory and practice, reinforcing student competence in concrete technology and standard-based mix design methodologies.
