DBCE students excel at the Goa Waste Management Hackathon 2020
Students of Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda showcased their innovative skills to emerge as winners at the Goa Waste Management Hackathon 2020 organised by Goa State Innovation Council in the DBCE Auditorium on February 18-19, 2020. Mechanical Engineering students, Sanath Bharne and Rajay Naik won the first place for their project titled “Mini Solid Waste Management Model” while Tejas Pandit and Rohit Prabhu got the second place for “Glass Crushing Machine”. The third place was secured by Saieesh Karwarkar, Saineel, Aafrin, Deeptesh and Akshata from the Civil Engineering Department for the project titled “Detection & Removal of waste from surface water bodies”. In all , 19 teams participated at the event.
The event was an initiative of Govt. of Goa to provide students a platform to solve challenges faced in solid waste management and disposal. The event was inaugurated by Fr. Kinley D’ Cruz -Director, in the presence of Dr. Neena Panandikar – Principal and other dignitaries. Mr. Jose Noronha – Chairman, Goa State Public Service Commission was the Chief Guest at the Valedictory function.
The students were mentored by Prof. Ajit Salunke, Prof. Swapnil Ramani, Prof. Suraj Marathe, Prof. Satyesh Kakodkar, Prof. Gaurish Samant and industry experts. The jury comprised of eminent researchers and industry professionals. The event coordinator was Mr. Sudip Phaldesai, Project Officer, GSInc.
