World Engineering Day Celebrated at DBCE

Don Bosco College of Engineering’s Student Chapter of the Institution of Engineers (India) (IEI) celebrated World Engineering Day on 14 March 2026 in association with the IEI Goa State Centre. The event also featured the installation ceremony of the new Student Chapter Working Committee for the academic year 2026–27, along with an expert talk on “AI Applications in Mechanical Engineering.” The Chief Guest for the program was Er. Shounak Tyagi, Senior Branch Manager at Bank of India, Fatorda, and Dr. Shitala Prasad, Assistant Professor at IIT, Goa was the Guest Speaker. Er. Austin Rodrigues, Chairman of the IEI Goa State Centre; Er. Shashank P. Shirwaikar, Honorary Secretary of the IEI Goa State Centre; Dr. Suraj Marathe, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department at DBCE; Dr. Ajit Salunke, Faculty Coordinator of the IEI DBCE Student Chapter; Mr. Deep Joshi, Outgoing Convenor of the chapter, were also present on the dais.
The program commenced with an address by Er. Shirwaikar, who briefly introduced the history and significance of IEI and highlighted the various opportunities it offers to engineering students, including technical activities, workshops, and access to professional resources. This was followed by a welcome address delivered by Dr. Marathe, who welcomed the dignitaries and encouraged students to actively engage with professional organisations such as IEI to enhance their knowledge and professional exposure. Mr. Deep Joshi, the outgoing Convenor of the IEI DBCE Student Chapter, presented the annual report, summarising the activities conducted by the chapter during the previous year. Addressing the gathering, Er. Austin emphasised the importance of innovation, continuous learning, and practical exposure for engineering students in today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape. Er. Tyagi shared insights from his professional journey and highlighted the responsibilities of engineers in contributing to societal development. He encouraged students to cultivate analytical thinking, leadership skills, and to explore diverse career opportunities, including public service examinations such as UPSC.

The installation ceremony for the new Student Chapter Working Committee for 2026–27 was conducted by Er. Shirwaikar. The newly installed committee members include Shaibaz Badgi (Convenor), Joyvon Clemente, Tanmay Paiguinkar, Zenas Fernandes, Denzil Godinho, Aniketh Dongre, Zephaniah Da Silva, and Myerich Barretto. In his presentation, Dr. Prasad explained how artificial intelligence, as a multidisciplinary field, is transforming modern engineering practices. He discussed technologies such as deep learning, digital twins, edge computing, computer vision, and emerging communication technologies like 6G, along with their potential applications in various industries.
Deep was felicitated for his contribution towards technical activities during his tenure. The event was coordinated by Dr. Salunke and Prof. Sharad Shanbhag and was organised by the IEI DBCE Student Chapter committee.
