World Plumbers Day Celebration

On 11th March 2026, Don Bosco College of Engineering (DBCE), in association with the Department of Drinking Water, Government of Goa, organized a commemorative event to mark World Plumbers Day. The initiative aimed to recognize, honor, and raise awareness about the indispensable contributions of plumbing professionals to public health, environmental sustainability, and modern infrastructure.
Shri. Narayan Tiverkar, Superintending Engineer (South), graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Fr. Ralin De Souza, Rector of Don Bosco, Fatorda, along with Shri. Dattaraj Pai Kakode and Shri. Devidas Kerkar, Executive Engineers from the Department of Drinking Water, were also present, adding significance to the event.
In his keynote address, Shri. Tiverkar highlighted the critical yet often underappreciated role of plumbers in maintaining water distribution and sanitation systems. He emphasized the growing need for skilled professionals equipped with knowledge of modern and sustainable plumbing technologies to address challenges such as water scarcity and resource management. He also appreciated the collaboration between DBCE and the government, noting that bridging the gap between engineering education and practical trades is essential for the holistic development of infrastructure.
Addressing the gathering, Fr. Ralin De Souza spoke about Don Bosco’s long-standing tradition of training youth in various trades, with plumbing being one of the most prominent. He underscored the vital role plumbers play as frontline contributors to public health by ensuring access to clean drinking water and safe disposal of wastewater, thereby preventing waterborne diseases. He further highlighted their contribution to environmental sustainability through water conservation practices such as leak prevention and the use of efficient fixtures.
Dr. Swetha Prasanna, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, delivered the welcome address, while Prof. Shruti Jhambale skillfully hosted the event. The technical segment featured insightful sessions by Assistant Engineers Shri. Anand Mauzo and Shri. Viraj Patil, along with Ms. Mini Sahani, Sales and Marketing Head of Nutech, Chhattisgarh.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Prof. Satyesh Kakodkar. It witnessed enthusiastic participation from approximately 75 plumbing professionals and 55 students, making it a meaningful and impactful celebration.
